Question:
My husband deals with all the financial issues/ responsibilities in our household. I have worked for a few years outside home, but do not anymore. Can I rely on my husband to pay khums on my behalf? Should I be questioning him regarding this obligation or do I just rely on the fact that I have delegated to him all my financial affairs ?
Answer:
Everyone is responsible for their own Khums. If you have savings that belong to you and it’s been over a year and you haven’t used them, you have to pay Khums for them. If you no longer have income or other money that comes to you, it means you don’t have any financial responsibilities toward the khums, and only your husband is responsible to do the khumus on his own savings.
