I have come to know that people from our own community cannot get rid of their bad habits and sins. I have heard about sins and how to get rid of them by learning what their consequences are both in this world and the next.

Could you please tell me what are the consequences of watching pornography while being single or while being a married man with no problems in marital sexual life?

Answer:

Watching pornography is haraam (prohibited) whether one is single or married and regardless of one’s intentions. The Almighty Allah (SWT) says: “Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and protect their chastity.” And the next ayah says it for women. (Surah Noor, Ch 24)

The ayah indicates that watching haraam scenes is against chastity and can lead to adultery. The Prophet (pbuh) also says: “a lustful look is the poisonous arrow of shaytan (satan).”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) says: “Those who look at the back of women, there is no (divine) protection for their women not to be looked at” (al-Kaafi vol.5 p.553).

Meaning that those who have a lustful look at other women should bear in mind that behind their back someone else will look at their women’s private parts. It also means that by lowering the gaze against a haraam look, not only do we protect our chastity, we have also protected the chastity of our own women too.
